Aims of a Business Watch
Business Watch aims to:
- reduce the fear of crime through the provision of accurate information and raising awareness about security conditions in businesses.
- to reduce risks to personal safety and property through identifying potential high risk situations and locations within businesses.
- provide a means for the local business communities in the identification of problems.
- develop a Business Watch email system to keep businesses and the Police aware of the latest criminal trends and activities within business districts.
- to enhance the business so as to attract clientele as a friendly and safe place.
- reduce opportunities for environmental crime; and
- conduct activities to reduce fears regarding safety and security in the business sector.
Who can be involved?
Any registered Commercial or Business enterprise may apply for membership to Business Watch and upon receipt of the membership application a Security Audit and Site Assessment will be made of the premises.
This Security Audit and Site Assessment will be completed by a trained member of the Police or Neighbourhood Watch using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) concepts and principals.
How might you get involved?
By downloading the Business Watch application form in a PDF file on this page or by contacting the Neighbourhood Watch Office at the Crime Prevention Unit:

and requesting an application form to be sent to you by email or fax. After you have completed the Business Watch application form return it to the Crime Prevention Unit.
What happens after the membership application in received?
Your application will be processed and when completed, an appointment will be made with you for an assessor to visit your business to complete a Security Audit and Site Assessment.
After the assessor has completed your Business Security Audit and Site Assessment, it will be collated. When this is completed you will receive a copy of your Business Security Audit and Site Assessment with recommendations, if any, that will be required to be completed before your can be accepted as a member of Business Watch.
What does the Business Security Audit and Site Assessment cover?
The Business Security Audit and Site Assessment will determine your level of security and will include your entire premises eg. Doors, windows, alarms, locks, lighting (inside and out), your security level (staff and business), entrances, building structure, yard, outbuildings and driveways to name a few.
