Overview

Community Watch is designed to reduce the incidence of anti-social behaviour and to  develop respect for law and order in both cultures in all communities with the Elders and Leaders of  Community Councils, Residents of Indigenous Communities, Local Suburban Residents, Police, Community Patrol and Local Government Councils and other interested community groups working together.

Vision and Action Statement

To reduce the incidence of anti-social behaviour, use of illegal substances, reduce alcohol consumption and
re-establish respect and compliance for authority of both cultures and Traditional Land Owners.

Structure

Residents would elect a Community Watch Leader, Community Watch Committee and Community Zone Leaders who would design the program, protocols and governances to suit the requirements of the community encompassing both cultures of the Community Watch Area where applicable.

A Police Officer from the Crime Prevention Unit and/or a delegated Aboriginal Police Officer would attend all Community Watch meetings together with other invited interested community groups.

Membership to Community Watch will be free and membership cards will be issued to all Community Watch members

Once established Community Watch street signs will be placed around the community indicating the community has a Community Watch and entry means a compliance with the protocols and governances set down by the Elders, Leaders of the Community and Community Watch Committee in addition to the laws of the Northern Territory.
